MEET THE FIL-AM LEADERS
KRISTELL NG
Hii! My name is Kristell Ng and I’m a 4th Year Fiber and Polymer Science major. I am one of the Co-Presidents of PASE and am excited to see what’s in store for both the Fil-Am community and my last year here at Davis. I’m known to have a passion for anything Disney or corgis. My favorite colors are mint and gray, and I always have random cravings for Potato Corner fries. If you ever see me on campus, don’t be afraid to say hi! |
LAUREN PADRON
Hey, y'all! My name is Lauren Padron and I'm one of the Co-Presidents of PASE, Pilipinx Americans in Science and Engineering. I'm a 4th year Managerial Economics major here at UC Davis. I'm OBSESSED with the color purpose and at one point in my 3rd year, I drank Sharetea every day for like two weeks straight. My favorite food is Hawaiian food - I can eat kalua pig and lau lau ALL DAYYY. I also work at the King Hall Peet's Coffee (visit me, please LOL). I'm ALWAYS down to get boba and/or food so feel free to hit me up. |
JOY CALLEJO
Hi, everyone! My name is Joy Callejo and I'm the President of Business for Pilipinx in Business and Law (PIBL). I'm currently a third year majoring in International Relations and minoring in French and Public Health. I was an orientation leader this past summer so if you were a first-year, transfer, or international student, a HUGE shout out to you for becoming a UC Davis Aggie! Thank you for reading my bio and I hope that as one of your Fil-Am presidents, I can support and empower you through political, social, cultural, and professional means. |
VANNALEE CAYABYAB
Hi y’all! My name is Vannalee Cayabyab (pronouns: she/her), a third year double majoring in Political Science and Spanish, and I am the Co-President of Pilipinx in Business and Law (PIBL), representing the law side. But why PIBL? In my family, I am the first to pursue a career outside of the medical field. Because I had no one to turn to for more knowledge about the profession, I felt unsure and hesitant at times. However, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career that allows me to fight for justice in my community. So I co-founded this organization because PIBL believes that you are not alone. PIBL is here to support you through resources and to provide you a community as you move forward on your journey towards success and achieving a position of power that rightfully belongs to you. Someday, I hope to attend law school and become an elected official. I am also the President of IGNITE at UC Davis, an organization with the mission to empower young womxn to become civically-active leaders who ultimately pursue leadership positions. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope to meet you soon/let's get boba! |
JHOANN BATAC
Hello! Welcome to the UC Davis Fil-Am Community’s website. My name is Jhoann Nicole Batac and I am from the city of Hayward in the Bay Area. As a fourth year undergraduate student at UC Davis, I am double majoring in Community and Regional Development, as well as Psychology. I love spending time with family and friends, exploring familiar and unfamiliar places, appreciating spoken word poetry and dance performances, as well as expressing myself through music and community action. With that being said, building community and empowering individuals through creative expression are significant constellations guiding my purpose as a student leader. I am very grateful to be serving y’all as this year’s FILAH president and look forward to navigating waves of wholesome adventures alongside y’all as we collectively persist in steadfastly sailing towards our personal dreams. Let’s inclusively express our individual stories and tenaciously treasure the Fil-Am community to multidimensionally empower one another as student leaders at UC Davis by collaborating through courage, culture, compassion, and creativity. <3 |

ZAC FIELDING
Hey y'all! I’m Zac Fielding (any gender pronouns are acceptable) and I lead Kapwa Filipinx Ministry. I am a fourth year student currently studying psychology (biology emphasis) and sociology (social work emphasis). As someone whose Filipinx roots were closely connected to my Catholic upbringing, it only felt right to go deeper with my spirituality while also immersing myself more in my culture. Through Kapwa, I hope to break down the white-cis-hetero-normative ideals that are so deeply ingrained in organized religion. I am reclaiming my faith as shaped by myself and my experiences, finding beauty in my complex Catholic-Filipinx origins. I also like Netflix and coffee. If my aspirations of becoming a clinical psychologist don’t work out, I hope to one day become Twitter famous (@zacfielding). I’m always down to meet up and talk about faith or tv or life. Feel free to add me on Facebook and message me! |
CYRINA AVILA
Hi there! My name is Cyrina Avila, I use she/her pronouns, and I will be happily serving as your BRIDGE Student Director for the 2017-2018 school year. I am currently a fourth year pursuing a double major in Sociology - Organizational Studies and Communication with a minor in Technology Management. As Student Director, one of my primary goals for the year is to support my community by expanding our resource network and being a facilitator that connects one to another. With friendship being the primary resource, I hope to be able to support you in your journey here at UC Davis through the rich academic, professional, and cultural resources that BRIDGE has to offer. I’d love to share more about what this could look like with you in person, so come by the Student Recruitment and Retention Center and let’s chat! |
CAMILLE ABUTIN
My name is Camille Abutin and I’m a 3rd year Global Disease Biology major. This year, I’m incredibly excited to be serving as president for the Filipino Association for Health Careers, otherwise known as FAHC! Born and raised in Camarillo, CA, I’ve always known that I wanted to become a doctor. However, it wasn’t until my first year with FAHC that I realized my growing passion for primary care. My fondest memories in college are all with the Fil-Am. I’ve had the pleasure of serving as FAHC Intern, FAHC Co-Community Service Coordinator, and Fil-Grad Coordinator during these past 2 years. With each position, I’ve come to love the Fil-Am community more genuinely and wholeheartedly. My favorite Fil-Am event is Pilipino Culture Night since it’s a year long process that ultimately brings the members of this community closer, not only to their culture but also to each other. Despite the different walks of life that members of the Fil-Am take, PCN is a reminder that no matter where we come from or what lies ahead, we’re going through our college experience together as a pamilya. However, this pamilya feeling doesn’t end with just PCN. I’ve always appreciated how devoted the members of this community are to the success and wellbeing of everyone and it shows through the events and personal connections throughout the year. Although not all events are obviously tangible to my dreams of becoming a doctor, I must say that they are all relevant in ways that are outwardly humble yet deeply significant. Through the moments I’ve been inspired to the times I’ve struggled, the Fil-Am community has continued to challenge me to become a better leader, student, and friend. If you see me walking out in the quad with my headphones in, there’s no guessing what kind of music I’m listening to. I love EDM, musicals, indie, pop, classic rock, and everything in between, but I love hearing new music the most! So if you have any suggestions, I’m always down to give it a listen. I also loves memes and honestly, I’ll laugh at anything. I am definitely eager to meet you, so feel free to tell her what music you’re listening to, show her your favorite meme, or simply just say hi!
